How to get accurate text from an image
Optical character recognition identifies printed letters and reconstructs them as editable text. A sharp screenshot usually produces cleaner results than a tilted phone photo. Before uploading, crop away unrelated backgrounds, straighten the page and ensure the text is large enough to read. This tool works best with English printed characters. Handwriting, fancy fonts, low contrast and curved paper can cause mistakes.
Check text before reusing it
OCR is not a reliable source of truth for legal amounts, addresses or medical information. Confusions such as 0 versus O, 1 versus l, and decimal points are common. Compare important fields with the original image after extraction. The engine processes your selected image locally using Tesseract.js; the first run downloads the OCR library and language data, so it needs internet access even though no paid OCR API key is required.
Example workflow
For a screenshot of a typed event schedule, choose the image file, select “Extract image text,” and inspect the returned lines. If column order looks wrong, crop each column separately and run recognition again.

Frequently asked question
Is image text uploaded to ToolForge?
No application endpoint receives the chosen image. OCR runs in browser memory after external library resources load.
